Heathwood Upholds Fine "Traditions" in Milton

One of the many benefits of living in the Town of Milton is its friendly small-town ambience. Milton is a place where neighbours help neighbours, and where a sense of belonging is paramount. Since Heathwood Homes purchased the land for its Traditions community at the west end of Old Main Street 20 years ago, the company has upheld this important value, and has given back to Milton in numerous ways – most recently through The Mikey Network (www.mikeynetwork.com).

This non-profit organization was founded in 2003 by Heathwood Homes and Heron Homes to commemorate Mike Salem, a partner who passed away in 2002 from sudden cardiac arrest (SAC) during a golf game. The Mikey Network is dedicated to promoting heart-healthy living through public education, and to placing public-access defibrillators called MIKEYS in as many high-risk locations as possible so that people affected by SAC might have a second chance at life.

To date, The Mikey Network has raised over $500,000 and has placed more than 270 MIKEYS across the GTA. To help make Milton a cardiac-safe city, the Network donated two MIKEYS to the Town for use in police cars in remote areas. There is a also MIKEY at the Milton Curling Club. To commemorate the first “Mikey Month” in February 2007, Hugh Heron presented another MIKEY to be used by the Milton YMCA at its summer camp for children. Mr. Heron is Principal and Partner in the Heron Group of Companies, President of Heathwood Homes, and Chairman of The Mikey Network.
